Combining CBD and Yoga
Ever thought about combining yoga and CBD before? It might sound like a novel idea, but combining the two isn’t a new fitness fad - far from it. It’s been happening for centuries.
In fact, cannabis is referred to in the sacred Hindu texts (known as Vedas) as one of the five sacred plants. Since yoga is one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophical traditions, it’s easy to believe that those Hindus back in the day were reaping the benefits of the two combined.
Luckily, CBD doesn’t get you high so you combine the two safe in the knowledge that no psychoactive side-effects will happen. But how can you combine CBD and yoga in an effective way? We take a closer look.
A CBD-Inspired Yoga Routine
Yoga is a perfect antidote to a stressful day. Combine CBD to heighten the connection body, mind and soul.
Roll out your mat and grab a bottle of CBD oil. Don’t know which CBD? We recommend:
The London Botanists Reset 5% CBD Extract - this thick and earthy oil is not over processed during the CBD during the extraction process. Keeping all the terpenes flavonoids and cannabinoids in tact.
Arima Pure CBD Oil 5% (500mg) 10ml - 100% natural and containing the highest quality of Cannabis Sativa L extracts, this oil will transform your yoga sesh.
Chocolate & Hazelnut CBD Oil 10ml 5% (500mg) - CBD newbie? Give this oil a go. It’s delicious flavour means you can blend it with coffee if you’re not a fan of the earthy CBD taste just yet!
CBD can take a bit of time to kick in, so we recommend taking it between 15–40 minutes before you start (time depends on the administration method).
Start with a classic Savasana - lie on your back with your arms at your side, palms facing up. Then, just breathe. Try not to control your breathing, instead just listen to your body. Notice how the breath feels as you inhale and how your body feels when you exhale. Do this for a few minutes until you’re body is relaxed and you feel like you’re melting into the mat.
Move onto all fours making sure your hands are under your shoulders and your feet under your hips. On an exhale, arch your back and tuck your head towards the chest for Cat pose. On an inhale, expand your belly toward the floor, gazing up towards the sky for Cow. Do 5–10 rounds of this sequence.
Downward Facing Dog
Come on to all fours with your wrists under your shoulders and knees under your hips. Tuck under your toes and lift your hips up off the floor as you draw them up at back towards your heels.
From the Downward Facing Dog, move your head towards the top of the mat so that your hands are directly under your shoulders like you’re about to do a push-up.
Finish with another Savasana. The CBD has had time to work its magic. Combined with the gentle postures you just moved through, your body and mind should be feeling relaxed.
